Putting your Life in The Hands of a Practitioner

Ever wondered why doctors call what they do a practice? Ironically, you are expected to put your utmost faith and trust in them. I don’t know about you but the thought of having someone practicing on my body isn’t a jolly one.

A few years back while in high school, young and driven by my biology lessons I thought I was too smart to consult with doctors. For over 8 years, I literally stopped going to any doctors. Well, not only was it an arrogant decision, but I figured amongst other cells, one’s body is made up of enzymes, which are proteins responsible for  building and repairing the body's cells, bones, and tissues, (http://www.enzymeessentials.com/HTML/print_tour.html)  these name a few. In short this means with or without any medication one’s body is capable of rebuilding itself, this of course with an aid of good diet, food with enough proteins to boost the enzymes.
Not only was I arrogant, but smart as well, wasn’t I? But then again, if our bodies are equipped with the potential to rebuild themselves, why do we then have to go see doctors every time we catch a cold or suffer from a mere fever? The answer is simple, imagine if students were not given any due date for their assignments. Would you do it any quicker? I doubt, well same applies to our bodies, as much as we have enzymes that are capable or rebuilding the body every time we suffer from an illness, the enzymes themselves need a bit of an assistance to help them speed up the process of healing. This is where the ‘practitioners’ of this profession come in. With knowledge and experience in the field, doctors are capable of examining the type of catalyst (medication in this sense) necessary to assist the enzymes to help the body heal.
So basically, in simple language this would mean; doctors predict the type of catalyst needed by the enzymes to speed up the process of healing and not that they are the ones healing the body. Not taking anything away from the doctors, I mean of course without them our bodies would take time to recuperate. I don’t know about you but the hardship endured while nursing an illness isn’t an ebullient period, as a result this shows how much we need doctors to tell us what medication is needed for our bodies to heal faster.
This leaves us with a conclusion that doctors call what they do a practice because, as of the Oxford English Dictionary practice means the actual application or use of a plan or method, as opposed to the theories relating to it, which in this sense are the doctors.
Leaving room for discussion, do doctors heal us or assist in the healing process?
